Mubarak: Two-state solution is coming; Netanyahu will concede

Bethlehem – Ma’an – A two-state solution is coming sooner or later, said Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Wednesday following a flurry of political activity in the region.Earlier the same day US Middle East Envoy George Mitchell affirmed US administration policy in the West Bank, saying he intends to stress a settlement freeze and push for a two-state solution. Mitchell expressed similar sentiments to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday. During an interview on Egypt TV, Mubarak commented on the latest developments, noting that he had expressed his determination for a two-state solution to Netanyahu when they were in Sharm Ash-Sheikh earlier this year. Mubarak said Netanyahu had not refused the idea at the time. Mubarak explained his interest in achieving a just solution to the Palestinian case, saying stability and peace for Palestinians meant stability in the region, including Egyptians. The Egyptian leader also spoke about his meeting with US President Barack Obama, noting that the leader promised that Israel would “lend a hand” in the halt of settlement construction. He also mentioned, however, that Palestinians must help by achieving unity.
